[A Christian steward is] one who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.
“Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response,” U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
From the beginning, parishioners at Holy Martyrs have taken ownership for the community as a whole. One of the ways they have done that has been to take special care of the worship space by creating a ministry of committed parishioners who come each week, on Tuesdays, to vacuum and dust the church. The Glory Bees are set up in teams and those teams take responsibility for cleaning the worship space one Tuesday a month. This rotation schedule ensures that no one person or group ends up with an overwhelming task. We truly believe that “many hands make light work” so let us know if you feel called to spend a couple of hours during the day on one Tuesday each month to care for the area in which we pray together. As one Glory Bee remarked, “there is something profound and spiritual that awakens in me when I become aware that I am caring for sacred space.”
