Holy Martyrs Catholic Church

Catechists

Catechists are those who are called to serve through teaching, witness, prayer, service and building community. They minister to youth, children and adults in a variety of programs: parish faith formation and religious education programs, youth ministry programs, sacramental preparation and family programs.

Catechists help young people explore, in an age-appropriate manner, very important questions. How is God present in their lives? Where do they see the movement of God’s Spirit in their homes, their school, their community? How does being Catholic challenge them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ? Through word and example, catechists teach the Catholic faith and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Catechists should possess and exhibit qualities or characteristics necessary to give credible witness to the Gospel. A catechist should:

  • Be a model of Catholic Christian faith and lifestyle.
  • Participate in the spiritual, theological, and methodological training and formation provided by Holy Martyrs or the Diocese of Cleveland.
  • Know and abide by the diocesan guidelines and policies promoting effective catechesis.
  • Give sufficient preparation time for the catechetical task.
